Why matcha works for layering

Matcha sits between fresh green notes and creamy gourmand territory, so it can be pushed brighter, softer, sweeter or woodier depending on what you layer with it.

Beginner rule: start with two scents. Apply the lighter or fresher one first, use fewer sprays than normal, then add the warmer or softer scent and let the combination settle on skin.

1. Matcha + Vanilla

Mood: creamy, calming and easy to wear. Vanilla softens the greener edge of matcha and makes the combination feel more comforting.

2. Matcha + Clean Musk

Mood: soft, skin-like and understated. A clean musk makes matcha feel more personal and less obviously gourmand.

3. Matcha + Bergamot

Mood: bright, crisp and daytime-friendly. Bergamot lifts matcha and works especially well when you want a fresher combination.

4. Matcha + Fig

Mood: green, creamy and slightly fruity. Fig adds depth without turning the blend into a sugary dessert scent.

5. Matcha + Sandalwood

Mood: smooth, woody and grounded. Sandalwood gives matcha a warmer base and works well as the weather starts to cool.

How to test your combination

  1. Test on clean skin rather than only on paper.
  2. Use one or two sprays of the lighter scent.
  3. Add one spray of the warmer/base scent.
  4. Wait at least 10 minutes before judging the blend.
  5. Check it again after two hours to see which note dominates.
